Post to the Letter from Anonymous to the Governor of Virginia

Posted by mcelynrh on December 1, 2008

The writer of this letter, whether it be a he or she, probably had good reason to sign as “Anonymous.” At first I wondered why the writer of the letter signed in such a manner. Afterall, the writer could have been rewarded himself for giving such information to the Governor. This person could have probably used a monetary reward for good interest. Then I came to thinking that whoever this person is, if they revealed their name, other abolitionist could have killed or harmed his family for doing such an awful deed, in their eyes. He/She could have been a traitor to Nat Turner; a spy wanting to help the current government at the time. Though, we can never really know why this person did not reveal their identity.
