Trent Lott distances himself from Ole Miss segregation group in 2002 autobiography

Excerpt below. Also in the autobiography, he tries to rationalize the 40 words that caused him to resign from the Senate:

Dec. 5, 2002; p. 246:
“I want to say this about my state. When Strom Thurmond ran for president, Mississippians voted for him. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn’t have had all these problems over the years either.”
