Jefferson to Coles:

Coles, who was James Madison’s private secretary, wrote this letter in 1814  in an effort to gain public support from Jefferson, in his days of retirement, on gradually emacipating slavery in America. I love how great Coles is at complimenting and flattering Jefferson!
